BOGOS HAMAMCIYAN (ASDİKZâDE)

(1872-1945)

Popular singer (hanende) and composer of Armenian origin. He was the son of Asdik. He was born in Ortaköy, Istanbul. He learned music from his father and especially learned the songs of Ârif ve Şevki Beyler. He had a very good voice, and worked for a long time as a popular singer. Later he earned his living by giving private lessons. He died at 73 years old when he had an intestinal operation in the Bakırköy Armenian Hospital. He knew the Hamparsum notation very well. Because of Arel bey, Bogos wrote some of Şevki Bey’s songs in this notation; now this notation is found in the Arel Library. There are some nice compositions; Kürdî’li Hicâzkâr Türk Aksağı and Sûznâk şarkıları.

These 11 songs belong to him: 1. Karcığar Aksak (Olunca mihnet-î sevdâna lâyık), 2. Karcığar Curcuna (Ağlarım hâtırımda durdukca gam-ı firkatin), 3. Kürdî’li Hicâzkâr Türk Aksağı ( Güller açmış, bülbül olmuş bî-karâr), 4. Kürdî’li Hicâzkâr Curcuna (Aşkınla terakkî ediyor âh-u enînim), 5. Evcârâ Sengîn Semâî (Olalı ey yâr ben sana mübtelâ), 6. Hicâzkâr Ağır Aksak (Nâle-kâr-î hasretim, bir bağrı yanmış bülbülüm), 7. Segâh Aksak (Mümkin olur mu görmemek seni?), 8. Sûznâk Yürük Curcuna (bir nigâhınlaa kapıldım, gönlümû verdim sana), 9. Uşşak Aksak (Cây-ı aşk-î hicre düşdüm, bir saâdet görmedim), 10. Arazbâr Ağır Aksak (Gelince, teşrîfinle ey gül’izâr), 11. Irâk Yürük Aksak (N’ettim sana ben bî-vefâ zâlim?).
