KOMPONIST UND INTERPRETEN

OSKİYAM

(1780?-1870?)

Oksiyam, a player of tanbur and ney, was born and died in Samatya, Istanbul. He was a student of Tanbûrî İsak, and studied instrumental works with Zeki Mehmet Efendi. Standing out at a young age as a tanbur and ney virtuoso, he was brought to the Palace as a teacher of music during the reign of Mahmut II. He composed peşrevs and saz semâîs; the only one of his works to survive to the present is his Bayati Saz semâîsi.
